Transcripts of manuscripts, the bulk being from the Musters Book of Sir Edward Montagu of Boughton. He was responsible for mustering and training the militia in five of the ten hundreds of the eastern division of the county.
The Introduction provides a detailed account of the historical context, including the activities of the Deputy Lieutenants against the Papists at the time of the Gunpowder Plot and the local rising in 1607 against enclosures.
