John Bridges (1665-1724) did not survive to see his History of the County published. However, he had commissioned Dutchman Peter Tillemans to prepare a large collection of illustrations for engraving to be included in his book. Tillemans' drawings are now held by the British Library and are all reproduced in this volume together with some of Bridges' original notes. The collection gives the reader a unique idea of what Northamptonshire looked like in the 1720s.
