Victoria County History
Queen Victoria and her family in 1887

British History Online provides an overview of this project which aims to write a history of every county in England. Five published volumes relate to Northamptonshire and can be consulted online. There are numerous references to primary sources. The first two volumes address countywide topics:

Hundreds and estates

There are also articles on these subjects:

Places

Volumes 3, 4 and 5 include detailed reports on many but not all of the parishes and boroughs in the county, arranged by their hundreds. They are generally arranged by topics such as the local manors, churches and charities. To help readers find information about the places that particularly interest them, the following list includes direct links to each parish or borough and is set out in strict alphabetical order.

About this section

  • For some items we list, copyright has expired and so they are in the public domain. It is important to comply with copyright restrictions where they do apply.
  • Resources that are housed on the FamilySearch site are indicated by the symbol (**). Before accessing such items it is necessary to create a free FamilySearch account.

  • Links that go to a subscription website or to non-Record Society publications for which payment is required are indicated by the symbol (£).
